As per the official CubeCart site, details regarding CubeCart v4 End of Life (Stage 1) have been announced.
Key points from the announcement:
- CubeCart v4 will no longer be available to download from our website.
- official support, documentation, knowledgebase articles and forum pages will remain available for 6 months (22nd December).
- no further releases of CubeCart v4 will be made unless a serious security vulnerability is found.
However we cannot guarantee how long it will remain compatible with server software updates and/or third party payment and shipping systems.

CubeCart Pro / CubeCart Lite
CubeCart Pro is the existing commercial version of CubeCart.

Thank you to all my highly appreciated clients for a very successful 2011 business year.
The new year has started and with it comes the promise of even higher quality work and customer service than previously provided.
Over the coming months you will notice changes to the site.

Today CubeCart 4.4.6 was released.
This update is something I only recommend for CC4 store owners:
- whos server is running PHP 5.3
- also uses Zend Optimizer
Store owners using PHP 5.2 or older, or using ioncube, do not need to upgrade.
There does not appear to be any bug fixes or new features with this release.

As per the official announcement, CubeCart 5.0.0 RC1 has been released.
Some key points from the release thread:
Yes. Version 3 will no longer be supported by our staff and it will not be available for download via our website anymore. No one is forcing you to upgrade. Your v3 store work indefinitely so long as it remains compatible with your web server software but of course we strongy recommend you to upgrade.
CubeCart v4 will be supported for 18 months from the final release of v5 and be available for download for 12 months. On purchase of CubeCart it will be possible to choose between using v4 or v5.
This depends is any sersious issues are uncovered in RC1 or maybe RC2. However it could be as soon as 7 - 10 working days.

Recently CubeCart 4.4.5 was released.
This update is something I highly recommend for all store owners using CC4, especially those using reCAPTCHA or Google Base.
There are two main components of this release that make the upgrade required:
- reCAPTCHA fix
- Google Base Product Feed Update
Plus there are numerous bug fixes and a new gateway with this release.
If your store uses reCAPTCHA, then the fix needs to be applied.

Store owners using CubeCart 3 (all versions) will experience errors being displayed site wide if PHP is upgraded to 5.3 or greater.
This is due to the ereg, eregi and eregi_replace functions being deprecated.
A bug report was created for the issue.
Unfortunately no official fix was provided.
There is 4 ways to correct the problem:
- hide the error messages (see instructions below)
- replace all occurances of the deprecated functions
- upgrade your store to CC4 (not recommended)
- upgrade your store to CC5 (recommended)
The simplest solution is to stop the errors from being displayed.
Edit File:
/includes/ini.inc.php
Find This:
error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_NOTICE);
Replace That With This:
error_reporting(E_ALL & ~(E_NOTICE | E_STRICT | E_DEPRECATED | E_USER_DEPRECATED));
Note : This does not actually fix the problem but instead hides it from view.

Recently CubeCart 4.4.4 was released.
This update is something I highly recommend for all store owners using CC4.
There are two main components of this release that make the upgrade required:
- Security Patch
- PayPal Standard Bug Fix
Plus there are numerous bug fixes and gateway changes with this release.
At the very least you should protect your store, and customers, by applying the security patch, if you have not already done so.

The 30 Mods In 30 Days Competition is now completed!
First and foremost, a huge thank you to all the participants.
Quite simply the response was outstanding!
I had a great deal of fun throughout the competition and it was a great challenge.
Due to the overwhelming response, there will most likely be a similar competition in the new year.
Perhaps scheduled once CC5 is released and considered stable.

As previously mentioned HERE I have set myself a challenge to release 30 new modifications in 30 days.
Only now, it is not just a personal challenge, it is also a competition.
This competition will run from November 1st to November 30th 2010, with 1 modification released per day.
I am creating:
- 20 modifications for CC4
- 10 modifications for CC3
Since Devellion made the CubeCart v3 & v4 End of Life announcement, and through quite a few conversations with concerned store owners, it has become obvious many are concerned about the future of both CC3 and CC4.
This competition is my way of showing my intent, that you can rest assured that I will be continuing to support both versions fully.
There will be more details posted on this soon, so check back here often for further details.
Moving on to the competition itself...
Over the years I have created lots of custom solutions, from simple to complex, for those of you reading this.
So what I want to do is create and release modifications based off what I have made for you previously.
Here is what you need to do using the competition form:
- fill in your details (just a name and email address is fine)
- provide your store URL
- select if this is to be a CC3 or CC4 modification
- provide details of the mod I created for you
Feel free to submit as many ideas as you like.
Each suggestion counts as an entry into the competition.
Submissions will be accepted all the way up to the 15th of November.
The 30 best suggestions will be selected and then released as modifications.
Once the 30 days has expired, two winners will be selected.
One winner using CC3, one winner using CC4.
Each winner gets a copy of each modification released for their store version as part of the competition!

As most people reading this know, my primary focus has and always will be creating custom solutions for individual stores.
This is something I have alway enjoyed and find to be highly rewarding, so that won't be changing.
However, new visitors to the site have commented on the lack of 'ready to go' modifications available for purchase.
So to correct this, I am setting myself a challenge:
Release 30 new modifications in 30 days!
This challenge will run from November 1st to Novemeber 30th 2010, with 1 modification released per day.

Unfortunately due to the 'current' CubeCart 5 beta being expired, I have closed the CC5 demo.
When they make a new version available, I will be setting up a new demo for everyone to check out.
Regarding CC5 itself, I honestly don't have a great deal of confidence in it at this stage.
This opinion I believe is a rather commonly held one amongst the developer community.
Given that beta 5 has expired and beta 6 still hasn't been released, I think that even the cube developers themselves are having second thoughts about certain aspects.
Of course, these statements are pure speculation and should not be considered as facts.
Only time will tell on that front and hopefully they end up releasing a very solid product.

Recently CubeCart 4.4.2 was released.
This update is something I suggest for all store owners using CC4.
If you are using 4.4.0 or 4.4.1 you should consider upgrading to 4.4.2 to apply numerous bug fixes.
If you are using 4.3.9 or any previous 4x version, I highly recommend the 4.4.2 upgrade be done as soon as possible.
At the very least you should protect your store, and customers, by applying the security patch from the 4.4.0 release, if you have not already done so.

Recently CubeCart 4.4.1 was released.
This release was primarily to address a few bugs introduced by the CubeCart 4.4.0 release.
Here is the information from the 4.4.0 release thread:

* Misc. bug fixes
This update is something I recommend for all store owners currently using CC4.

Recently CubeCart 5 Beta 5 was released.
I have just finished updating the SFWS CC5 demo to use this new version.
Due to the vast amount of changes between the beta versions, this was done as a fresh install.
For those of you that already have access, your existing log in details will no longer work.
You will need to contact me so I can setup your access again.
For those without access wishing try CC5 and get a feel for the direction the software is taking, please feel free to contact me as I am more than happy to provide you with access to the demo.
The more people testing these beta versions, the better the final version will be.
Which in turn will result in a much better shopping experience for your customers.
That said, don't hesitate to put the new version through its paces!

* Deprecated PHP 5.3 functions replaced. e.g. "eregi"
* Miscellaneous bug fixes

As some of you are already aware, CubeCart 5 Beta 3 was recently released.
After giving this great deal of thought, I have decided to not release any CC5 mods for commercial use until the final version is made available. This decision has been made due to the vast amount of changes that occur with the software as it continues along its development path. Waiting until the final release will ensure maximum reliability of modifications created for the new version.
You are more than welcome to keep any eye on CC5's development and suggest any modifications you might require.
If you would like CC5 installed for you, that is a service I am willing to provide as installation can be a little difficult.
If you would like to simply look at CC5 in action, I do have a demo of it setup.
Please feel free to contact me as I am more than happy to provide access to it.
